It turns out I am very glad I don’t have a lot left to do on my costumes for DragonCon. I found out late Friday that I will be taking an unexpected work trip this week, thus losing 5 days of sewing. And I am already losing next weekend for sewing as well, to attend my sister’s bachelorette party. So. Huzzah for non-procrastination!
My sewing machine is still sitting in its case since I put it there before leaving on vacation. I have cutting to do before I can start new things. I realized late this week that I am actually not done with Project Breyna – I need to sew on all of the velcro that will keep the pieces together appropriately. That will be task one when I return from my trips.
I did make a run to Michael’s and Hancock with Elizabeth on Saturday morning. She was hunting for costume bits for her Halloween items. I was hunting for pieces to make a Steampunk necklace. I had some pieces gathered already, but I needed some things to fill it out. I have an awesome friend, Kim, a fellow Orkfest attendee, who is planning to make me some neat steampunk pins to go on the pocket flaps of my coat. I can’t wait to see them – she does super awesome jewelry work! I don’t know how she does it – all the tiny work with the metal rings and such has been driving me crazy with this one necklace I have been trying to make. I’ll stick to sewing, thanks. 😛
Here is the necklace I pieced together this weekend, to wear with my Steampunk costume. It’s really more of a choker with a y-shape to it. Pardon the cleavage and the glistening sheen you see on my skin … the AC has stopped working again, and its 85 in the house.
I am pretty certain all of the pieces were found at Michael’s. Elizabeth pointed out the awesome section, near the scrapbooking items, where they sell a whole bunch of really neat steampunk things. The faucet piece in the center and the gears next to it I found in that area, each in packages with other cool things. So I happily have lots of extra doo-dads after making this necklace. Unsure what I will do with said doo-dads, but that is besides the point. Maybe I will doctor up my boots some more. Since I still have an entire boot to finish.
That is the second thing on my list after I get back from my trip – the last boot. 🙂
