I have a love-hate relationship with scheduling for DragonCon. I love it because it is super fun to stare and drool over all the neat things to do in anticipation of the convention. I hate it because when I’m at the convention, I typically do about 5% of the things I had originally planned on doing. Maybe hate is a strong word. I’m perfectly happy not following the schedule I happily made for myself a few days or weeks before.
Even though I will spare you a lot of the details, here are some of the sessions I am most excited about (and therefore somewhat likely to go see):
- Gears, Goggles, & Brass: Basic Building
- EQ to EQNext: A Long Strange Trip
- Drum Circle
- Ghost of the Robot (and lots of other concerts)
- The Inaugural Airship Races
- George Takei
- Fairie Wing Crafting
- Incredible Transformations by SyFy’s FaceOff Contestants
- Prop Gadgetry: A Discussion of Electronics
- Spotlight on Leather
- Worbla, Wonderflex, and Fosshape
- Sci-Fi Janitors: Late Night Puppet Slam
You may think this is a long list. You would be wrong. I currently have at least two things for all the time slots during DragonCon. And I know I’ll spend time in the gaming hall. And the dealer halls. I just like to know what my options are at any given moment.
We’re also going to Fox Theater on Friday night for the Mythbusters: Behind the Myths show. Yeah, we could see them at DragonCon, but this way we are guaranteed seats and some friends who want to see the show but don’t want to attend DragonCon can join in.
In terms of costumes, I packed each one in its own bin. I managed to finish the steampunk whip, but you’ll have to see it when I post pictures from the convention. I also redid my garter. It is less pretty, and might cut off circulation to part of my leg, but that shit is NOT going to slide off my leg. Still haven’t played with makeup any further, or restyled the white wig (which I am now thinking of wearing with the fairy costume), but those are projects for tonight, after we’ve arrived at our friends’ house in Atlanta.
I’ll try to be good about updating FB/Twitter this weekend, but otherwise … I’ll see you on the other side!
