In honor of this Sunday, May the 4th being Star Wars Day, I plan to theme the month of May’s blog posts! Consider this the introduction to my Spacey Summer Sewing Series!
Since I returned from my recent vacation, my mind has been going full speed ahead thinking about sewing projects! I recently had a bit of an epiphany regarding “everyday wear” clothes that I want to sew for myself, so if this month’s theme goes well, you can expect a few more theme months throughout the rest of the year.
Those of you who follow me on Facebook may remember a recent post where I shared some geeky fabric purchases I found at J and O Fabrics:
I’ve been drooling over lots of the geeky clothes at places like Black Milk and some of the things I’ve seen at Fashionably Geek. But there are two problems with these. First, they are very expensive. A pair of leggings at Black Milk goes for $80 bucks or something. The fancy dresses I wore for formal night on the cruise last week cost less than that, possibly combined. And second, if you have a more full figure, like me, they do not make their clothing in sizes that will fit. Maybe 15 years ago I could have worn them.
Regardless, I decided I will start making my own geeky clothing. I already have 5-6 projects picked out for all this Spacey Summer Sewing! I have spent most of this week cutting things out, but I hope to have the first piece finished for next Monday. I’ll be using the fabrics above, and an idea given to me by Karen over at And Then We Laughed.
Stay tuned for lots of super spacey goodness! 😀
