Geek Monthly Baby Photos

2016 is flying right by!  Lincoln is already two months old somehow.  O.o

For those who follow this blog for the sewing, I have been working on my sister-in-laws wedding dress in between baby naps.  The muslin is done, and I have started on the real bodice.  We just did a fitting yesterday, tested out the installed “seatbelt” and pinned in some bra cups.  Lots of firsts with this dress, so I will have tons to post after the wedding. 🙂  No other sewing projects are allowed until we have a dress!  It’s good motivation, as I’ve been itching to make some new pajamas, leggings, and have even started dreaming about costumes for DragonCon, if I get enough time.  I suspect I’ll have enough time for one, but if the wedding dress is done soon enough, maybe two.  I also have to start thinking about Halloween costumes for das baby.

Oh!  Speaking of DragonCon, go check out the website.  When it cycles through to the third banner photo on the home page, you might see some familiar faces! 😉

In other news, I have a goal of doing Link’s monthly photos with a different geeky fandom theme each time.  I have a nice frame and some chalkboard sticky backed paper along with chalk markers to create a sign for each month.  Well, let’s be honest, Star Wars is going to happen more than once.  But I already have plans for Harry Potter, Star Trek, and Doctor Who.  And with a Nintendo nursery and a name like Link, I feel like Super Mario Brothers and Zelda are likely to happen.  Please let me know if you have some other suggestions!  In the meanwhile, I will spam you with cute baby photos from birth through months one and two.

My sister-in-law, Amanda, took these photos as she used to work for a children’s photography shop back in the day.  The first set of photos were taken on Christmas Eve, four days after he was born.  I managed to prep and gather some props for the shoot, including some lights and decorations, a green blanket (yay $2 blankets from Walmart), a little red basket I ordered from Amazon, and some wooden blocks that I covered in wrapping paper and lettering.  Yiayia and Papou sent a cute My 1st Christmas outfit, that was a little bit big, but we still used it.  And I had a few sets of cute Christmas pajamas for him to wear as well.  Link was such a trooper during these, very cooperative for a newborn.

We had a few outtakes, like the misspelling in this cute little photo.

We used the fireplace as the backdrop.  I normally decorate this and most of my house a lot, but this year it was the only decorating I did, and just for the pictures hah.

And this close up was one of my favorites <3

He did not last long in the newborn clothes.  As the doctor who delivered him informed me as he was arriving, “This is not a small child!”

In January, we did a little photoshoot.  The geeky theme was Star Wars.  He wore a onesie and a Star Wars month sticker.

I made a chalkboard for it, we setup the R2-D2 diaper cake my sister made for the baby shower in the background, I grabbed a brown blanket to wrap him in, and put batteries in one of the lightsabers from the baby shower.

The glass from the frame was reflecting people and lightsabers, so I eventually removed the glass for a few shots.  We’ll definitely leave it out for future photos.

We also changed his outfit a few times.  Some friends sent an adorable Superman onesie with a cape, so we had to try that on.

And one sleepy little man of steel …

And Megan and Amanda each got Link some Zelda costume stuff, so we wore those as well

This next one is one of my favorite photos of him so far.

We somehow made it through the nekkid baby photos without any bathroom incidents.  Huzzah!

This month’s geeky theme was Firefly.  I made a new sign, just stuck new chalk paper over the old inside the frame.  Got him a onesie with a picture of Serenity and the words “I aim to misbehave” on it.  Ordered a Jayne’s hat from a store on Etsy.

Added a chat bubble quote of Wash’s that my hubby found.  And went on quite the search for some silly dinosaur toys from the “Curse your sudden but inevitable betrayal!” scene.  It was not easy to find cheap, small, dinos.  Specifically T-rex and stegosaurus.  None in Target.  Wrong dinos at the dollar store.  Walmart had smaller ones, but no trex or stego.  They DID have large, pricey dinos of the right kind.  So that is what we wound up with.

And we did one costume change to one of my favorite onesies he has, with some dragons on it.  Featuring the blanket I made him 🙂

And we had to add the little baby dragon stuffed toy we have for him from DragonCon.  Next, a sweet closeup.

OK, last one.  Cuddling with the dragon.

Thanks for putting up with my picture spam heh.  There will definitely be more.  I can’t promise every month, but maybe I can manage every two or so.

Oh, also my good friend Elizabeth cross stitched an amazing Mario scene for Lincoln’s nursery.  I love it, and wanted to share it with you.  I can’t imagine how long this took her!

    I love these pictures!
And oh my goodness I can’t believe it’s been so long I’ve been slow on catching up on blogs lately. It really does just feel like a couple months ago you were making the announcement that Link was on his way.
How time flies… Mind you I’ve got a near 16 year old and I still want to do “Here comes the airplane” at dinner time… I don’t… but the thought crosses my head. Maybe if her boyfriend stops by mwah ha ha 😉
Can’t wait to see the wedding dress!

Haha I am definitely starting to understand how time flies and how your kid will always be your baby! Also making sure to remember which photos will properly embarrass him in years to come … 🙂

So cute! I love his little smirk in some of those. What a handsome boy you have. I’m glad you like the cross-stitch!
